What We Do
BEHHA assists people with disabilities to develop and maintain living arrangements and Quality of life in the community. The range of services are as different as the variety of needs and lifestyle aspirations of people with disabilities.
Accommodation and lifestyle choices, access community resources such as banks, shops, recreational activities, making and maintaining community contacts including neighbours and people in the community.
We also facilitate a range of activities that are a typical part of the routine of home life, personal care, household management, meal planning, shopping and laundry.
Who We Help
The target group for support accommodation are within the broad range of 18yrs to 65 yrs. Older people should not be excluded on age alone, however generally existing services for aged care would be more appropriate for someone entering the service for the first time.
It is important for Service Users to have a day programme or employment.
Our values underpin all that we do and define the nature of the service we provide.
We believe that all people with a disability should be treated fairly and with respect.
We act with honesty and integrity in our interactions with people using our service.
We believe a rich and diverse community benefits all members of our society.
We believe people with a disability have a right to take their place as citizens in their community.
We strive to deliver excellence in our services to the benefit of people with a disability and their families.

BEHHA was established in 1977 since that time we have had a strong commitment to providing support services to people with an intellectual disability. We have a long tradition of assisting the residents of our service to build meaningful lives in their local community.
Our residents work, attend day programs, pursue leisure and recreational interests and establish friendships and networks of support in their community. We believe our residents have the support and encouragement to imagine and create their own ‘good life’. We have had a person-centred approach to our service delivery for many years and this can be seen in the diverse and interesting lives our residents have chosen for themselves.
While a small service we believe that almost forty years of operation and the strong profile we have in our community positions Behha well for the changes that are occurring in the wider disability services system. Most notable of these is the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This will result in a fundamental change to the way that disability services are funded. No longer will providers be directly funded to provide services, rather people with a disability who have been assessed as eligible under the NDIS will have an individual package of funding available to them to purchase the supports that have been agreed to in their individual plan with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). For Behha this potentially means more people would be able to choose us to provide their accommodation supports.
We have modest expansion as our target under the NDIS. We plan to continue operating in the same local areas that are our current focus and use the full roll out of the NDIS across NSW as an opportunity to grow our service. We believe our long experience of enabling people to create meaningful and active lives will position us well for the future.
At the same time we are aware of the challenges all providers face as we move into the new system that will be created by the NDIS. Our strategic plan for 2014-2017 will focus our efforts in preparing for these challenges and assist us to remain an innovative, viable and effective service for the future.
